With our support, the NDIS participants can use public transport or personal transport to get from one point to the other. Even they are trained to build up capacity for independent travel.
If the NDIS are unable to use public transport, then they access funding through NDIS for transport assistance without substantial difficulty because of difficulty. So, they can complete their daily tasks and meet their needs of leading a sustainable life.
Under the NDIS, the transport-related supports comprise of:
- Aids and equipment related to personal transport
- Training to independently use public transport
- Modifying to private vehicles
- Reasonable and necessary taxi or private transport costs if the NDIS participants cannot use the public transport independently.
Even if the NDIS allows the participants to receive reasonable and necessary transport assistance, still it will not replace the state and federal government's responsibility for providing accessible transport.
At the time of the planning meeting, discuss the transport needs with the planner. Consider these pointers:
- Now is the time to think about using the transport. How do the NDIS participants have to travel to their destined locations for appointments, work, studies and social activities?
- Where should the NDIS participants travel if they have the appropriate transport and are capable of using it? How should it make a difference in your life? Is it necessary to catch a bus?
- Are the NDIS participants planning to use their own vehicles? Should the vehicle be modified to be self -driven or should another person assist in safe transport? Vehicle modification could be "reasonable and necessary" under the NDIS, for instance, special seating or equipment for getting in and out of the vehicle.

There are a variety of services included in Assist Travel and Transport, which depend on specific needs. These are a few instances:

The received funding amount depends on the specific circumstances. There are three funding tiers for transport assistance:
- Level 1 - For participants who are not working, studying, or attending day programs (up to $1,606 per year)
- Level 2 - For participants who are working or they are studying part-time or attending day programs (up to $2,472 per year).
- Level 3 - For participants who are working or studying full-time for over 15 hours and unable to use public transport.
